FTP With Dreamweaver MX

To connect to your student account using Macromedia’s Dreamweaver, start Dreamweaver MX and click on "Site" from the application menu, then click on "New Site". Dreamweaver will display the following dialog for you to create a connection to the campus server. Fill in the dialog as follows:

Site Name: type any name that you want to call this connection. (I used "student web")

Local Root Folder: select the location of your web files on your computer (I used "website"). This means that there is a directory on my C: drive called "website" that contains my web documents, i.e. index.html, interests.html, project1.html, etc.

Refresh Local File List Automatically: If checked, means that when you changes files in the Local Root Folder, Dreamweaver will automatically update its display automatically to reflect those changes.

Default Images Folder: select the folder where your images will be stored (usually this would be something like c:\website\images).

HTTP Address: Type the url for your web address. This will be http://studentXwww.fullcoll.edu/0000000X where X is the last digit of your student number and 0000000X represents your student number. I used student number 88888888. If your student number is 00002222, the url would be http://student2www.fullcoll.edu/00002222.

Cache: This is explained in the dialog.

Next select "Remote Info" from the Category list. Then select "FTP" from the access list.

Next you will see the dialog below with the following fields:

FTP Host: this is the server that Dreamweaver will connect to. Student web have the following FTP Hosts:

  • student0www.fullcoll.edu
  • student1www.fullcoll.edu
  • student2www.fullcoll.edu
  • student3www.fullcoll.edu
  • student4www.fullcoll.edu
  • student5www.fullcoll.edu
  • student6www.fullcoll.edu
  • student7www.fullcoll.edu
  • student8www.fullcoll.edu
  • student9www.fullcoll.edu

The appropriate host is determined by the last digit in your student number. So if your student number ends with 5, you will connect to student5www.fullcoll.edu and if it ends with 6 you connect to student6www.fullcoll.edu

Host Directory: This field can be left blank. The web server will default to your web directory.

Login: This is your student number concatenated to "fc\". The "fc\" means to authenticate a user from the Fullerton College network. *Make sure you use a backslash and not a forward slash. This will cause authentication to fail.

Password: This is your network password, the same password you use for email and to log in to the computer labs.

Other fields: The rest of the fields can be left unchecked. For more information on these fields, please refer to your Dreamweaver manual.

Once the site is created in Dreamweaver, you can use the site view to select the "student web" from your list of sites. To get the site view, if it is not displayed, on a Windows machine press "F8".

Then press the connection button to establish a connection.

To send files to and from the web server, right click on the file you wish to transfer, then select “Put” to send the file to the web server or select "Get" to retrieve the file from the server.

FINAL NOTE: In order to connect to web space, you must first request web space. Web space can be requested online at http://www.fullcoll.edu. For more information on requesting web space, please see http://webhelp.fullcoll.edu and click the link titled "Create Web Space for Students".
